DO YOU HAVE A SOLUTION FOR RESPONSIBLE URBAN TOURISM?

In partnership with the city of Amsterdam and in close collaboration with Amsterdam Marketing, the Booking Cares Lab Amsterdam is a 3-day regional innovation challenge, where startups, non-profit changemakers, local institutions and Booking.com all come together to explore the unique opportunities related to urban and responsible tourism in Amsterdam.

Using the city of Amsterdam as inspiration, the teams of innovators will be challenged to develop solution-specific project plans around one of the following themes:

  • Tourism Dispersal: relieving pressure on crowded tourist areas;

  • Inclusive Growth: making sure that everyone in the city benefits from the growing tourism opportunity, including an even more diverse array of local businesses;

  • Behavioural Awareness: educating travelers about how to act more like a local, including tackling topics related to littering and street pollution, noise control, and waste management, i.e. recycling and sorting, etc.

MORE ABOUT BOOKING CARES LABS

At Booking.com, we keep the customer at the centre of everything we do. This means that we strive to keep our destinations happy and healthy so that our customers can experience them for years to come.

To make a positive, lasting impression on the global travel industry, we know that meaningful change can only come about through strategic and deliberate collaboration throughout the entire ecosystem. As such, we are fostering a future where travel operators, independent researchers, NGOs, institutes, social enterprises, and government entities work hand in hand to further transform the global travel experience into a powerful force for good.

We believe that by investing our time, energy and passion in the right projects and backing the right people with the right ideas, we can help accelerate discovery and scale solutions to communities and destinations worldwide. We mobilise the early movers that identify opportunities where others cannot, find allies, creatively align resources, and build momentum towards addressing complex issues that need to be tackled.

Through our Booking Cares initiatives, we support destinations to be sustainable and resilient and seek to drive innovation in the sustainable tourism industry. Historically, our destination support and innovation acceleration efforts existed separately.

The Booking Cares Labs link destination support and innovation acceleration together, amplifying our impact by using innovation to bolster our programmes to offer destination support. As such, with our Cares Labs, we are working with destinations directly to ensure that they can continue providing the best experience to both travelers and locals alike.

As part of our Cares Labs, we invite innovators that are passionate about developing relevant sustainable tourism solutions, whether they come from the commercial or non-profit sector, to collaborate with local institutions, as well as mentors  and other expert volunteers from Booking.com.

Throughout the programme, innovators will use the selected Lab destination as their case study, work together with Booking.com experts and develop a concrete 30-day plan that they need to follow to make their solution a reality. At the end of the programme, each team of innovators will pitch their project plan to a panel of judges (in front of a live audience) for the chance to receive funding.

Surrounded by passionate people and with the best tools and approaches at their disposal, we want to inspire innovators to take the necessary steps to scale their ideas further and deliver measurable impact to more destinations around the globe.
